8D Version 1.2




Fellow Character Enthusiasts,

we've been hard at work for the last two weeks and now version 1.2 is finally here. Let's not waste time and get right to the new stuff and changes:


Spritesheet Creator: The best new feature probably is the new export mechanism. The export methods you used until now are gone, but don't you worry, something way better replaced them. You are now able to create (via a drag and drop editor) templates to completely customize your export format. There are premade templates (giant spritesheet, rpg maker format, image strips, rpg bakin format) that you can use as is or clone and modify. You can also start from scratch and export our graphics (sprites, busts and faces) in exactly the format that your engine of choice needs. Lots of character generators advertise that they support every engine - we actually do!


Character Library: Using a character code to save characters for later use has been ok for the beginning, but it's far from an elegant solution. You will now be able to save up to 100 characters and re-export them whenever you need.


Weapons & Weapontrails: Weapons and weapontrails can now be recolored using our color system, allowing you the ultimate freedom.


Face Mover: You asked for it and we listened. Starting now you can adjust the size and the position of mouth, nose and eyes on your busts head. This will allow you to customize those even further and make them really stand out.


8D Chars Cloud: Having your data "only" local was ok, but it got problematic with updates and such. That's why we launched 8D Cloud - your safe heaven for your 8D data. Just enter your e-mail up top, click on the link in the e-mail we will send you to verify and you are logged in automatically and all your data will be saved to the cloud - awesome!


These are the big things version 1.2 added to 8D, but there have been a lot of improvements behind the scenes (and even more in front) as well:

  • Locks have been added to the options to not randomize them when creating a new random character
  • 8D now automatically launches with the last character you created
  • New color palettes have been added
  • The holding positions of the bows have been adjusted to look more natural
  • A basic tutorial has been created (8D Tutorials)
  • A shadow tool is available for all users (yes, even demo) to add our accurate shadows to spritesheets without shadows currently
  • The export - by rewriting it completely - is now faster than ever


That's it for now and I hope the 2 weeks wait was worth it for you :)

The next update - version 1.3 - will include separate tops and bottoms + fully recolorable tops and bottoms, so you already know - this is going to be awesome! I have no exact eta for version 1.3 just yet, but it will be before June.
